One of the big remodeling trends for 2015 presented at the National Association of Home Builders in Las Vegas in January was outdoor spaces. Homeowners are opting to expand their outdoor spaces more than ever. Creating an outdoor living space expands the usable square footage of your home and extends it into the outdoors.
But these aren’t your run-of-the-mill concrete patios. Homeowners are electing to create luxurious, well-designed outdoor spaces that include many of the same conveniences and high-end features as their indoor spaces. In fact, many of these patios are basically open-air living rooms. They may even include appointments typically reserved for indoor spaces, such as upholstered furniture, rugs, televisions, and ceiling fans. Fireplaces and fire pits are also popular features to incorporate, adding both warmth and light. Plain concrete surfaces are being replaced with stone, stamped concrete, or pavers to create beautiful and inviting patio designs. Decks may include multiple levels and built-in features such as benches and planters. On properties with expansive outdoor space, multiple outdoor entertainment areas may be created throughout the property.
One of the most popular outdoor remodeling projects is to create a fully functioning outdoor kitchen. This may include a built-in grill, refrigerator, sink, and even specialty features such as an outdoor pizza oven, smoker, wine chiller, or rotisserie. An outdoor kitchen allows the chef to remain part of the action. It also eliminates food odors from the house and provides the perfect place to cook on sultry summer days when you’d rather not heat up your interior.
In addition to giving you a gorgeous outdoor space that will make you the envy of the neighborhood, remodeling your outdoor space can also boost the value of your home and drastically increase your home’s curb appeal.
